July Meeting with Bryan Wyatt

Bryan presented “From Patchwork to Pixels: AI and Quilting” to the guild at our July meeting. It was a very informative talk about AI in general but also how to use AI to help with your quilting projects.

Bryan mentioned that despite AI’s role, fabric selection, sewing, and emotional storytelling remain uniquely human elements.

Brina has a collection of vintage tablecloths and bedsheets that she transforms into gorgeous shirts and jackets.

She is offering a Quilted Clothing Workshop (June 17) and will walk attendees through the creation of a quilted jacket.

Upcoming Program

Dive down the rabbit hole of quilted clothing in this engaging and refreshingly honest presentation that blends craftsmanship with creativity. Showcasing a range of handmade pieces, Brina Smith will offer a firsthand look at how modern and traditional quilting can be reimagined into wearable fashions.

Brina will walk us through her design process which is less about rigid rules and more about curiosity, experimentation, and a willingness to just wing it. This presentation offers inspiration, practical takeaways, and a behind the scenes look at making quilted clothing.

Join us at the June 16 meeting for Brina’s presentation.

May Meeting – Rainy Day Picnic

We met for our annual picnic. Unfortunately, due to rainy weather, we held the meeting indoors.

Rainy weather maybe. Damp spirits never! We enjoyed a great potluck dinner!

Several people participated in the May Challenge – creating a nametag from selvedge letters. One lucky winner took home a fabulous prize of quilt and sewing goodies.

Next month, we will be spotlighting one of our own for a Quilted Clothing program (June 16) and workshop (June 17).

Anatomy of a Curve

This month’s program was attended via Zoom as our speaker was from Norway! We really enjoyed Daisy Aschehoug’s presentation for using curves in quilting.

Daisy is an award-winning quilter, designer and author of two books (Quilt Modern Curves and Bold Stripes (with Heather Black) and Quilting with Curves).

Our guild also celebrated a belated Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day gift exchange. This was a fun challenge. Everyone put their heart into their gift.

Quilt Alliance: Go Tell It!

For our February program, eight of our members shared quilts and the stories behind them.

We heard about grandma’s well-loved quilt; a mom’s gift to her daughter; a quilt gifted to a friend on the birth of her baby; a quilt that was hand-quilted over several years; and a mystery quilt that was rescued.

All of these stories were captured on video by Linda Pumphrey of Quilt Alliance. It was a real treat to hear the stories.

Check out other Go Tell It! stories on Quilt Alliance’s YouTube channel.

Chair Yoga with Mary Alice Estes

Our January meeting was the perfect way to kick off 2026.

Mary Alice led our January meeting in simple stretching exercises to keep our bodies limber. Sometimes the most exercise quilters get is the short walk between their sewing machine and the ironing board!

Healthy bodies! Happy quilters!

Education Stations at the September Meeting

Our september meeting was a great success with 5 members sharing various tips and tricks for everyday and special projects:

Kathy Garringer discussed a machine binding technique that can give you perfectly sewn, mitered binding corners.  She got this tip from the Flourishing Palms Blog  If you weren't at the meeting read the tutorial and give this a try.  If you were at the meeting, this is the link in case you miss place your handout.

Melissa Belman had a great discussion on the use of zippers and zipper tape.  She introduced us all to the world of zipper tape and zipper pulls.  Take a look at her handout here.

Natalie McCrory talked with us about seam ripping, the good, the bad, and the ugly.  She had a lot of great tips about ways to approach ripping a seam so as not to distort your fabric, and had a great variety of tools to share with us.

Jelyn Thomas shared a technique with us to make 4 flying geese blocks at a time.  She shared a formula so that you can calculate the starting sizes of your pieces no matter which size of geese you need.  You can also check out the Flying Geese Quilt Block Tutorial by Homemade Emily Jane on YouTube.

Sheila Kauffman had a fun gift or party idea for creating wine glass coasters. These are an easy way for each person to recognize their own wine glass if they set it down, and protects your furniture at the same time.
